About the Rose Parade and Rose Bowl Game

The first Tournament of Roses Parade was staged in 1890 by members of Pasadena's valley hunt club who wanted to showcase their new-found paradise to friends and family enduring frigid winters back east. This annual Pasadena tradition of welcoming the New Year with a grand festival of flowers delights millions of viewers around the world each year when they tune in, or turn out, to experience this one-of-a-kind parade.

It takes almost a year to create the floats for the Tournament of Roses Parade, so just as one parade has finished, preparations are in motion for the next year’s spectacle. Each float is decorated with more flowers than the average florist will use in five years.

On January 1, the Rose Bowl Game is typically one of the most exciting bowls of the Bowl Championship Series.
